Summary: The Manager of Application Development provides oversight, supervision and guidance in best practices for developing and delivering software to our customer. Manager is an advocate to product and delivery teams within company regarding these practices.

Key Responsibilities: “To simplify complexities for each customer.”

  • Oversee the development, recruitment, and retention of the Agile team members. Requires and rewards high performance, establishes objective measurements for evaluating employee performance
  • Leads talent acquisition and effective management and training of staff by working with HR and departmental leadership to review resumes of candidates, participating in interviews, ensure cross training and staff utilization.
  • Mentors and coach’s direct reports, including conflict resolution, employee motivation, employee development, employee evaluation, and disciplinary action. Sets and manages realistic expectations and boundaries
  • Creates a high trust, collaborative focused culture that motivates personnel to deliver high performing results.
  • Guides transformation of department through implementation of new policies and procedures, optimization of existing processes, and elimination of ineffective processes.
  • Understands latest technologies to contribute to the development of decisions, standards and processes that will provide benefit to IT and the business.
  • Communicates and oversees IT plans such as DevOps, Automation, Upgrades and others.
  • Effectively gather, rollup and communicate metrics related to Application Development initiatives.

Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly leads multiple agile delivery teams and performs managerial responsibilities by managing and allocating employee resources in accordance with company policies, applicable laws and company initiatives/goals. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and developing employees; overseeing and guiding work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications/Education/Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 5-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in leadership role. Excellent interpersonal communication and strong presentation skills are required. Knowledge of the Workers’ Compensation industry is preferred. Application development experience as an individual contributor is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proven experience with managing teams in an agile culture, including working with delivery, product, and portfolio level teams. Must have strong communication skills; including the ability to gather and communicate metrics across the organization. Experience with Application Development, Agile, Lean, DevOps methodologies, Automated Testing and SQL are strongly preferred.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

Duties are performed primarily in a home office setting utilizing computer equipment. Travel to attend meetings and visit locations throughout the country may be required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.

This is a mediocre place to work. Once you lift the curtain you find a cliquish culture that cannot be penetrated and realize a lot of decisions are made based on inner office politics. People leadership is lacking. They do offer flexibility and a good work/life balance, depending on your role. You can find pockets of nice people who work there. Because the company is small, it’s difficult to change roles or advance.
