Job Description: POSITION GOALS
The Part Time Bilingual High School Equivalency Instructor will work closely with Restore Education instructional staff to assist students enrolled in the organization’s programs and activities, to ensure that students meet their educational goals as they prepare for the transition to postsecondary. Instructor position is part time, exempt, and is directly accountable to the Instructional Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required:
o Must have a Bachelor’s Degree
o Must be Bilingual in English and Spanish
o 3-5 years classroom experience in adult education
o Strong ability to tutor in Language Arts and Math in Algebra level, preference given to those who can tutor Social Studies and Science
  • Prior experience working with adult learners and knowledge of adult learner characteristics
  • Knowledge of essential office equipment, computers, and remote instruction in web meeting software

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Highly Skilled in interpersonal relationships with students and adults in leadership, management, teaching, counseling and/or other professional positions.
  • Ability to present an image of professionalism in appearance and attitude.
  • Ability to develop rapport with students.
  • Knowledge of how to develop students’ motivation and how to build their self-efficacy
  • Knowledge of advising/counseling techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, coordinate workload, handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information and data gathered from work with students.
  • Ability to deal with diverse situations and people.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to tutor multiple subjects and multiple students in a fast-paced on line instruction group.
  • Willingness to learn new things and eagerness to acquire new skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist the Director of Student Success and Instructional Manager in planning a program of study that meets the adult learners’ individual needs, interests, and goals.
  • Use a variety of instructional methods and techniques in the classroom (in person and virtual), especially individual tutoring, to achieve required benchmarks.
  • Create lesson plans for HSE in English or Spanish that align with the TX AEL Content Standards 3.0 for college and career bound students for in person and online classes.
  • Build rapport with students in person/online, initiate conversation with and engage students in tutoring, goal setting, career planning, and other activities to build a positive working relationship.
  • Create presentations and present to Instruction Team during Instructor trainings.
  • Maintain contact with students through phone calls, email, and web texting app.
  • Enter student data such as contact information, case notes, or test results into a database.
  • Present material in an engaging and effective manner to meet the students’ needs.
  • Help other Instructors maintain a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, with minimal socialization of students.
  • Complete student ITEC plans in a timely manner.
  • Use effective retention strategies such as relationship building, regular student contact, goal setting activities, etc. so that students persist in the program.
  • Assist with student registration, orientation, and assessment administration (pre-tests and post-tests), and follow-up as requested by the Instructional Manager and Director of Student Success.
  • Attend a minimum of 15 hours of professional staff development every program year as required by agency contracts.
  • Function within the policies and administrative procedures of the organization in addition to state and federal laws.
  • Accomplish other duties as assigned by the Instructional Manager in a timely manner.
SCHEDULE: Monday – Thursday from 9am-6pm and Fridays from 9am-2pm (schedule might change and remote work offered).
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Based on experience, hourly pay range is $ 17 to $21 an hour.
DAY AT-A-GLANCE: 70% tutoring and moving about the classroom (or virtually tutoring), 15% follow-up contact with students or class prep time, 15% administrative work.
  • This position is grant funded. Although the grant is expected to end, additional funding might be obtained to extend grant beyond the end date. If that would occur, your employment under the grant might also be extended. However, all employment is considered to be at will and may be terminated by you or the agency at any time regardless of the end date of the grant.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, bending, twisting, and walking to perform the essential functions.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
Must possess a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License or obtain a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License within thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of the State of Texas.
