In this role, you will:
Be empowered to balance your time as both a Manager and Recruiter; ensuring all content roles have balanced coverage.
In your capacity as a Talent Acquisition Manager you will, inspire our Content Recruiters to work optimally in delivering results:
  • Onboarding and training new recruiters
  • Providing mentorship, guidance and career development to members of your team
  • Providing innovative, scalable solutions to drive our hiring to meet our business objectives
  • Ensure cross-functional recruiting partners are managing to milestones and metrics while ensuring a collaborative partnership
  • Develop and implement strategies and initiatives that will drive the overall talent acquisition process, quality of hiring, and time-to-fill goals
  • Provide regular reports to Head of Talent Acquisition on status of pipelines, openings, and hires
In your capacity as a Recruiter, you will:
  • Create and implement staffing processes and business strategies to achieve an annual hiring plan that emphasizes quality and speed of content hires and strong client management culture.
  • Make strong recommendations to the hiring manager on candidates to be interviewed and evaluated for positions within the organization
  • Screen, and recruit to hire full-time positions with world-class talent
  • Partner with hiring managers and HRBPs to forecast future recruitment needs, to identify external and internal talent, and align on compensation
  • Use a solid understanding of the company’s tools, processes, protocols and knowledge to recruit experienced-hire to entry-level candidates
  • Embrace the company’s branding strategy in the recruitment lifecycle
  • Work with manager, hiring manager team, and HRBPs to identify and address training needs in the areas of recruiting and selection
  • Partner with HRBPs to ensure a seamless approach to talent management
Here’s what you need:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of recruitment experience with at least 3+ years of leadership experience managing and guiding recruiting and/or sourcing teams
  • Digital recruiting experience a plus
  • Media industry experience, with a preference for those who have hired for newsrooms
  • General knowledge of recruitment/hiring laws and practices
  • Ability to quickly adapt to and embrace new technology
  • Excellent social media knowledge and skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Strong customer focus and effective use of consultative approach with clients
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve complex recruitment and hiring issues with minimum guidance

Nice enough work life balance, but meeting and exceeding goals can be hard. This mean making good money is hard and the base pay is minimal. If you have the abilty to handle rejection and constantly have goals and priorities changing, this may be a fit.

"Infrequent or no raises; no inside advancement "

Company likes to talk about money made in company-wide meetings, but they do not compensate employees with raises (almost all of the time). No raise since PRE-COVID pandemic despite current astronomical inflation. If you get a raise it might be 3% which does not keep up with inflation. Especially when coupled with current astronomical costs of housing, food, gasoline.

It's okay. The work is easy and the pay is decent. But it's not professional and the work environment is not really safe or healthy. But overall, a pretty ok job.

As a journalist and editor, my experience with Gannett was both revealing and disheartening. My colleagues were supportive and capable, talented and highly skilled. Upper management, however, was highly political, inept, and overtly willing to interfere with editorial integrity to the point of absurdity. The publisher, who later went on to run Gannett, censored stories as favors to politicians and purposefully gutted the news department of an incredibly popular and successful paper. HR and upper-level management knew of this conduct and did nothing to mitigate it. Literally, all of our editorial staff quit the paper over the horrendous management practices.
