Lumen is seeking a creative Copywriter Intern to write clear and organically-optimized for publications and websites. The Intern selected for this role will primarily write educational and support content, so that external information-seekers can effectively find and understand the answers that they need. This content will include support articles, video scripts, and blog articles. The writer will be expected to perform all aspects of the content creation process: ideation, research, validating the research, content creation, feedback cycles, editing, legal reviews, and publishing.


Job Description

The ideal intern for this role possesses excellent writing skills, as well as the ability to research new information and consolidate it into a comprehensible format. The candidate must also be capable of working in groups to find solutions, and determine how to make them understandable to the general public, and drive decisions with internal teams.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Write clear, attractive copy with a distinct voice, that is geared towards sales and support
  • Drive brand consistency across all company communications by crafting high-quality content that follows Lumen's branding and messaging format/style
  • Collaborate with designers, agencies and other internal partners to design content layout
  • Conduct high-quality research on new topics and be able to distill to a simple, understandable level
  • Use SEO principles to maximize copy’s reach
  • Source images and other content
  • Edit and proof work to ensure high editorial standards are met across all content outputs
  • Develop and implement brand guidelines
  • Stay current on trends and competitors within the editorial sphere

What We Look For in a Candidate

Educational Requirements:

  • Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior or master’s level education status at the start of the internship, graduating August 2022 – June 2023.
  • Major/Degree: In pursuit of degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, Communications, or Media Studies, or related discipline

Proficiency and Understanding of:

  • A drive to understand emerging techniques, trends, and philosophies in marketing, communications, technology, and social media
  • Proven experience as a copywriter or related role preferred
  • Knowledge of online content strategy and creation preferred
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Strong creative thinking skills and ability to think conceptually
  • Comfortable working independently with little direction under tight deadlines
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a diligent eye for detail, language, flow, and grammar
  • Proven ability to demonstrate brand voice
  • Strong attention to detail

There were so may changes every other week low staff because they kept cutting people putting more stress on current employees management did not care about their staff there was a lot of favoritism employees were overworked and underpaid if you have small children this job is not for you most of us were so burnt out but of course management could care less they did not care about customers either only good thing about my experience is that they did work with you if you had some personal things to handle and it allowed me the opportunity to return back to school and pursue something I really wanted to do…a huge con is NO ADVANCEMENT AT ALL AND THE PAY SUCKS especially if your a contractor too much work and little pay for what you have to do

This company's culture has declined over the years. It use to be customer friendly. Now, their focus is on quantity! Management doesn't care if the customer recieves help. They want to win the customer over with big promises that will not be kept. Just get them off your line as quickly as possible so you can move on to the next victim. The customer gets passed around endlessly between overseas and the US agents, departments, and eventually gets dropped. When they finally get to someone who wants to help them, they are so done with the company and very abusive, which as an employee, you're expected to take. I can't say I don't much blame the customer because I'd be the same way.

Commissions pre COVID were three times what they are now. Funny considering half of the people quit because of the change in commission pay outside. Yet they merged our department with from 3 into 1. Amazing supervisors but just don’t feel appreciated for sticking it out through the pandemic and having back to back calls and added over time due to shortage of people. If you want to feel appreciated, look else where.
