Job description

CRQ (Cannabis Review Quarterly) Magazine is looking for freelance reporters interested in local cannabis related reporting of news events and feature stories.

Reporting will take place in communities across Western Massachusetts.

Ideal candidates should have:

  • Good traditional newspaper skills (writing, reporting and knowledge of AP style).
  • Be a self-starter
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines
  • Photography and social media skills a bonus

This is a pay-per-story position that requires journalism fundamentals, such as on-scene interviewing, unabated accuracy and adherence to deadlines.

A typical start to my day required me to punch in and report to my area. In my area, thousands of newspapers and thousands of inserts were waiting. These newspapers had to be opened and the inserts had to be put inside each newspaper. I utilized mechanical equipment to insert flyers in mass quantities and was required to meet a daily quota of 6,000 + inserts per shift. I worked by myself primarily but when I had to work with others I was able to do so. There wasn't really a hard part to my job. I remained consistent in my work and met my quotas. The most enjoyable part of my job was reaching the high quotas set at the beginning of each shift. I always worked hard and it was nice to see that I reached the goals daily.
Pros:
Easy to drive to, lots of work, independence
Cons:
this department is shrinking. No major cons.
