Job description

**Remote position but prefer someone in Pacific or Mountain Times**

Summary/Objective

This position manages financial forecasts, annual budgeting process, operating plan variance analysis and special projects. S/he will provide financial consulting and strategic support to senior management, including preparing financial presentations and monthly variance reporting. This function acts as the analytical engine of the Company to provide insights and support optimal business decision making. The position will supervise a Financial Analyst staff.

Essential Functions

  • Analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of revenue and expense
  • Monitor performance indicators, highlighting rends and analyzing causes of unexpected variance
  • Supervision of Financial Analysts, improving performance by evaluating processes to drive efficiencies
  • Oversee and manage the continued development of Budgeting, Financial Forecasting, Operating Plan and Modeling tools
  • Ad-Hoc reporting and analysis
  • Monthly and quarterly financial reports
  • Develop financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives
  • Analyze complex financial information and provide accurate ena timely recommendations to management
  • Support senior management team and department heads with in-depth analysis
  • Prepare presentations for senior management team

  • Strong leadership skills required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Highest standards of accuracy and precision; highly organized
  • Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively highly-driven and self-motivated
  • Demonstrated ability to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hand-on management capacity

Travel

  • No travel required outside of Bay Area offices.

Required or Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA highly preferred

Required or Preferred Experience

  • 5+ years experience as Manager or Director of Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Media company experience desirable

Work Environment

  • This position is assigned to the San Jose office, but is currently working remotely.
  • Position may become permanently remote and we will consider remote locations

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee will operate normal office equipment including computer/copies/scanner equipment.

If you got a nice car believe me it will look like you just ran it to the derby after about a year. Or if you have a gas guzzling vehicle if you don't want to use that you'll push about half to almost 3/4 of your paycheck and gas I have a V8 it runs me about $600 every two weeks at $3.86 a gallon.... The job is peaceful nobody really bothers you but you're also driving all night long between the hours of midnight and 8:00 a.m. everyday you don't get a day to go camping or have fun or do anything really that's going to consist of you not working overnight. If you are going to try to pull something overnight make sure you have a friend or a family member or someone you trust to learn your route and know your route. I promise if you're by yourself you don't get a day off.

The business is owned by a hedge fund. That means lots & lots of budget cuts, an iffy feeling of job security, & legitimately NO room for growth or advancement. That being said? The people are kind & the sales contests are great.

Beware if you are applying for Accounts Receivable Specialist. You will be given very little training for the daily expected tasks. The only way to get a raise is to move to the 12-9pm shift, become a supervisor, or change departments. They do not give performance reviews and raises for a job well done. There is very high turnover because of this and they now hire through temp agencies because they cannot keep employees. If you have no experience, this is a good place to start. If you are looking for a job with advancement, do not apply. The employees who are kind and hard working leave because they are not appreciated so you are left with rude and unhelpful coworkers. Company is owned by Alden Global Capital who buys bankrupt newspapers and lays off majority of staff and leaves few people to do the job of many. They have purchased Tribune Publishing in 2021 and are laying off Shared Services dept. in TX and adding the work to those in Willoughby, OH...with no raises.
