About the Role

Purpose:

Creates and revises training programs, learning journeys, elearning courses and modules, and other learning assets. This position drives the instructional design and content cohesiveness of learning experiences, and acts as lead developer and subject matter expert for the learning assets they create.

Duties:

Learning Experience Design

· Act as instructional design lead for new training projects ranging from large program development projects to small learning assets, and from instructor led designs to online programs and learning journeys

· Identify and capture the key learning objectives for each program and module, working with target users and buyers where possible

· Collect content and analyze it for efficacy and efficiency

· Work collaboratively but authoritatively with authors and subject experts to refine content into its most powerful essence

· Align content to integrate with established company curriculum

· Determine the most compelling instructional design and learner experience design for each project, balancing impact and client demand with expense and time to market

· For instructor led offerings, architect the instructional design into outline form

· For online learning, capture the instructional and experience design in detailed storyboards

· Create and refine learning materials, working with subject matter experts and product development collaborators

· Participate in alpha and beta sessions to identify issues and make improvements

Product Development

· Work with a development team to outline project scope, product definitions, and packaging specifications

· Develop and design products using a variety of delivery mediums, including print, audio, video, and Web-based applications

· Compile, write, and edit learning materials and author drafts

· Provide graphic design, formatting, and layout vision to production artists and product developers

· Conceptualize and initiate new product ideas into tangible learning materials

· Embrace rapid development methods and explores new options for product delivery

· Make recommendations for new products using client feedback and market analysis

· Performs other related duties as assigned by management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Deep knowledge of instructional design theory and practices

· Extensive storyboarding skills

· Extensive writing skills for learning materials such as slides, job aids, video scripts, workbooks, etc.

· Familiarity with leadership development and soft skills theory and content

· Knowledge of the training and development industry and practices to create high quality learning experiences

· Knowledge and skills in using Adobe Design Suite

· High level of interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with peers, thought leaders, and executives

· Advanced skills in leading projects and problem solving

· Knowledge of agile development and rapid prototyping a plus

Education and Experience

· Four-year degree in a major related to education, writing, psychology, or experience design

· Advance degree a plus, in a related field

· Five or more years of experience developing both instructor-led and elearning training programs and materials

· Three or more years of experience developing and releasing products as part of a product development team

· Experience in a publishing and/or printing environment is helpful

I learned that core values are not always lived by all in the company and are sometimes tweaked for their own values. People are sometimes in their roles by default and not based on their ability to do the job. Many have only worked for Blanchard and have no experience outside the company. Old school mentality of doing things and many areas could be outsourced to save money or invested in to be brought to current standards. There is no desire to educate and grow people internally by exposing them to industry conferences or organizations where networking and company growth could be key.

A typical day work in the translation department for the KBC was getting their Situational Leadership materials ready in some targeted language. Most the material would mainly be in English. However, sometimes it is ordered in a different language (ie. Spanish, Russian, Romanian, etc.). We would therefor send out a translation matrix to a the respected translator. Then it would be returned and I would plug the translation into the material.
