Position Summary:
We are looking for a person who thrives in a multi-project, dynamic, and diverse environment to collaborate toward the American Physical Society's, Information Technology department's strategic goals. As a Senior Business Analyst for APS you would utilize various elicitation techniques to gather pertinent information to plan effectively, design, develop, and launch the business, financial, and operations systems supporting core organizational functions. You are someone who can recommend solutions that will best fit the overall alignment with APS organizational objectives. In addition, for this role the Senior Business Analyst must identify and create clear and concise alternative, constructive and forward-thinking solutions for multiple business objectives and requirements. You would be a Product Owner within the Information Technology team, having a variety of responsibilities, including supporting strategic projects from start to finish, advising on our long-term roadmap to ensure scalable and innovative solutions, and driving process and mentoring other business systems analysts on the team.
The ideal candidate will be able to:
1. Interacting directly with source system vendors, understanding downstream impacts, and will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to create final functional definitions.
2. Being responsible for managing projects and onboarding new vendors, identifying key components of a project and the impact across the organization, designing/improving and documenting workflows, and proposing the best solution.
3. Coaching junior analysts and preparing performance reports/metrics/dashboards for the department/documenting workflows within the organization.
The APS has a “remote first” concept that promotes equal treatment and equal access, independent of physical work location, with a majority of staff working primarily from remote work locations. Education: B.S. in Computer Science, Information Sciences, or equivalent
Certification: ITIL, PMP, Salesforce admin and developer certifications desirable

A Typical Week May Look Like This:
- Maintains a detailed understanding of the software used by APS to serve the departments supported by the group
- Supporting the day-to-day operation of the software
- Understands and supports business procedures of various departments (Membership, Development, and Meetings) of a non-profit to provide procedural solutions, software customization, or development as needed.
- Administers, configures, and builds solutions in Salesforce and associated applications
- Develops API solutions and integrations with third-party systems.
- Provides advanced support to users.
- Works closely with vendors to implement projects, patches, and upgrades.
- Frequent contact with internal users, developers, and other technical staff. Regular contact with project managers, supervisors, end users, and related support staff.
- Frequent contact with external software developers to ensure new modules, APIs, or database modifications are customized and integrated according to APS business needs. Vendor customer support when advanced technical support is needed.
Education: B.S. in Computer Science, Information Sciences, or equivalent
Certification: ITIL, PMP, Salesforce admin and developer certifications desirable
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimally 4 years of experience in a technical environment as an analyst
- Solid understanding of relational databases and the ability to write SQL
- Ability to understand the and read programming languages such as: Apex, Java, Javascript, Python, Ruby.
- In-depth understanding of web-based software and API design.
- Effective project management, communications, and related skills
- Strong organization, documentation, and prioritization skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to quickly changing schedules.
- Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently.

Working along side the Director of Art and Special Publications, I created graphics such as posters, flyers and adds to be printed and displayed in many locations.
While working there, I also produced a 10X10' physical structure made of foam board and print outs to be displayed at Comic con! :)
The most fun I have ever had working on site for a company. Five stars all around.
