Research Assistant

The Research Assistant utilizes qualitative and quantitative research methods and analytical skills to assist senior staff in conducting a variety of research projects for government, non-profit, commercial and academic clients. The research assistant performs data entry, coding, and management tasks to assist in the flow of the project. This entry-level position offers an opportunity to develop research and analytical skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow the research plan thoroughly, accurately and thoughtfully to ensure quality research outcomes and findings. Ability to work in a fast paced and team-oriented environment where high stakes recommendations and decisions are made based on the results of our work.
  • Perform data entry, data coding and data management tasks. Assist with primary data collection efforts and analysis, as well as analyses of secondary data sources.
  • Conduct literature and document reviews; present a synthesis of these findings to team members.
  • Assist senior staff with the development of data collection instruments: interview and focus group protocols, surveys, and screening tools to identify eligible research participants.
  • Assist senior staff in performing analyses of quantitative and qualitative studies
  • Contribute to report writing, development of data visualization, formatting and copy editing.
  • Document the procedures and methods used, carefully follow the research protocol and take precautionary steps to protect integrity of the data.
  • Assist with the preparation of peer-reviewed journal articles and presentations for national and international conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field of study (Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Public Health, etc.)
  • 0-2 years of research experience
  • Ability to utilize SPSS, STATA , NVivo or similar analytical software
  • Proficient in MS office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong work ethic
  • Flexibility and ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of research terminology and understanding of the research process
  • Excellent written and oral communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management skills, work ethic and customer service orientation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Unfortunately the covid-19 situation put a stop to my employment with them as my position required going into people's homes to conduct interviews and this was halted once quarantine was imposed.

There is no job security. The company is run by the CEO and his wife who is the CFO with no accounting background. They will fire anyone who displeases them or says no to them. Company culture is non existent because they don't want to spend the money, No training is ever provided. If you want to learn something, find a coworker and learn from them. The total number of employees is a lie. The company has never had more than 50 employees, it is only at 25-30 people. Upper management is a joke, they don't help employees at all. They talk big but there is no action to follow. When people are let go or they quit, the work is distributed among the remaining employees regardless of whether the employee has the background or experience in performing the task. It is all "learn as you go" or fake it until you find a new job. They will sweet talk you into taking this job giving you false expectations. Don't fall for it.

This organization prides itself on innovation but is wedded to software applications that are not a match for the work being done. The CEO is brilliant but he expects the same level of dedication that he has, with the financial compensation that would make it worth it. This business has not grown a whole lot in 15 years, from 6 people to 35-40. Compare to Impaq that was founded at the same time and employees several hundred people. It is a good opportunity for an entry level person to gain experience and move on to one of the bigger players but for managers, it's nightmare. Temps are used regularly and put on the phones after a few hours of training. The core interviewers are very good but have limitations on the hours they can work. The turnover is so high that you are an old timer after a year.
